City honors two outgoing mayor's youth advisory board co-chairs and seeks applicants

"We've got 8 openings because these guys are going off to college, and we're proud of them. But so trying to fill those spots. We have 5 applications so far," a staff speaker said, encouraging bilingual students and representation from every high school and district. Both Jack Elling and Elise Guttenes spoke about their experiences, citing accomplishments such as expanded teen-center recognition, SAT tutoring, scholarships for summer programs and youth-led symposiums that spurred further civic engagement.
Council members thanked the youth for their service and urged continued civic involvement after college. Staff said recruitment would prioritize geographic and school-district diversity and that the board often provides short-term service as members age out of the program.
