Planning Board amends Master Plan draft to correct school acreage and note seasonal population surges

During the March 17 work session members reviewed changes to the Master Plan introduction and agreed on several corrections to demographic and facility information. "The population has gone way up to around 30,000 on a holiday weekend and probably 10,000 during the week," Scott Grant said while recommending updated figures be included; the board also discussed a more conservative tourist peak estimate of about 13,000 on high-season weekends.
The board agreed to correct the stated school acreage (Scott Grant reported the school acreage is closer to 11 acres, not 30) and to add updated enrollment counts cited from state figures: approximately 161 students pre-K through eighth grade and 69 high-school students. Members debated whether the Master Plan should call out short-term rentals (STRs) and accessory dwelling units (ADUs); Michael Galante described STRs as a fading trend, while others worried a Master Plan statement could be interpreted as advertising if the town does not have enforceable inspection or permitting processes for STRs.
No formal vote was taken to adopt the full Master Plan text at this meeting; the board said changes proposed at the session would be incorporated into a revised draft for future review.
