Hurricane Mountain group asks how to leave Kearsarge Lighting Precinct; Selectmen say town will not research until a petition is filed

Megan MacGillivray, speaking about correspondence from Kyla Brustin on behalf of the Hurricane Mountain Association, asked the Selectmen whether the group could withdraw a petition to leave the Kearsarge Lighting Precinct if the process proved legally or financially burdensome. MacGillivray said the process "has become a lot more complex than the group thought it would be."

Town Administrator TA Jones and Selectman Ron Munro explained practical limits: a petition that has gathered signatures is difficult to withdraw because organisers would need to contact each signer, and signature pages should include the full petition wording with legible printed names and home addresses so signatures can be verified. TA Jones said online signatures (for example, Docusign) would not be accepted because the Town could not verify them. Selectman Chandler added that the Town will not undertake boundary research or change precinct policies absent a formal petition and noted the Selectmen previously sent a letter stating they do not support the boundary change.

MacGillivray asked whether the group needed other requirements; TA Jones said the office had not yet researched the topic because of high workload around budget and Town Meeting preparations but that there would be a reply to the original email once staff had time. No formal action was taken; the Selectmen provided only procedural guidance.
