Pat reported the Zoning Board of Appeals met July 16 to consider Catherine Young's variance request to reduce a setback from 5 feet to 4 feet at 141 East 2nd Street. The board voted unanimously to deny the variance, citing that construction had already begun two years earlier without a permit and that the property appeared to be used for a business purpose inconsistent with the zoning district.
Pat told the council the applicant was present at the zoning-board meeting and the board asked questions before reaching its unanimous decision to deny the request. Commissioners asked about how unpermitted work and the partially constructed foundation would be resolved going forward; the zoning staff said there was no petition or variance before the council and recommended the property be reported to the appropriate enforcement channels if necessary.
The council voted to accept the zoning board's recommendation and deny the variance request.
