Hope Week volunteers report 5,400 hours of service in Illinois Valley

Anne Caper, representing Hope Week volunteers, told the council the program completed approximately 5,400 hours of volunteer service across LaSalle, Bureau and Putnam counties during its first full week in June and that Oglesby has been "a cornerstone community" for the effort. "We can muster up to 100 people on an evening or a morning for a physical labor project," she said, and offered the group's assistance for future park or downtown improvement projects.
Caper reported volunteers painted 16 picnic tables across city parks and postponed one dock project because of heavy rain; she encouraged the council to suggest suitable future projects early so organizers can plan. Council members thanked Hope Week for the work and noted volunteer labor as a resource for smaller city capital and maintenance efforts.
