Highway department wins paving grant, board approves $181,290 contract and $18,000 culvert work

Town highway staff reported that the town had secured a paving grant that, combined with the local match, enabled continuation of an existing paving program. Staff presented a contractor's quote to extend paving from the Jericho Fire Station to Mansfield Drive for $181,290; the board voted to proceed with that contract. The presenter noted the town's match and explained that in-kind culvert/ditch work the highway crew does could count toward the match, potentially reducing the cash outlay.

Separately, the highway director requested and the board approved spending $18,000 from the highway budget on culvert replacements at several failing locations that are prerequisites to further paving work. Staff explained the logic of completing drainage and culvert work to protect paving investments and described plans to use grant funding plus targeted town funds. "The price they gave me for that would be a $181,290," the highway presenter told the board when describing the contractor quote; the board approved continuing the paving by roll-call motion and voice vote and separately authorized the culvert spending.
