The CRA voted to acquire 1947 West Main Street — a vacant liquor-store parcel at the corner of Albany and Main — for $700,000 plus $12,000 in closing costs, staff told the board. Brenda Thrower, West Tampa/Ybor City development manager, said real-estate negotiators returned a purchase price below appraisal and that the property has been the site of recent violent incidents.
"So we would like to purchase this property for $700,000 with $12,000 of closing cost, and we're just asking for your approval today," Thrower said. Board members emphasized using the site for mixed-use redevelopment with affordable housing above ground-floor retail, transit readiness and neighborhood-serving amenities. The motion passed on a voice vote; staff said the acquisition will allow the CRA to control redevelopment on the corner and coordinate with community stakeholders on future use.
