Darien ARB gives favorable report to EMS building restoration plan

The scope includes refastening and replacing damaged clapboards, scraping and repainting decayed trim and window casings, installing copper flashing where needed to prevent future water infiltration, and using thermally modified pine for replacement materials. The front porch will be replaced and raised to meet code while matching the existing aesthetic and original posts. Staff said existing doors will be refinished and that gutters, chimney and site drainage will be repaired and relocated to move runoff away from the building; the board requested research on the building’s historical gutter style.
