The Oregon State Marine Board voted to authorize Facility Grant 1736, awarding $41,263.18 to the City of Oregon City to complete archaeological work at Clackamas Park ahead of a planned boat-ramp relocation. Janine Lehi, the boating facilities program manager and tribal liaison, told the board the city was providing about a 46% local match and that the work is the first step in a longer permitting and construction process.
Board members pressed staff about how boaters have coped since the ramp closed and whether nearby ramps can absorb the demand. Lehi said users have shifted to other nearby ramps and that seasonal peaks (salmon and steelhead runs) strained parking at alternate sites. The citys on-call representative, who joined by phone, said: "We view this as kind of our first step in moving this project forward and getting this boat ramp back open to the public." The motion to approve the grant passed with an aye vote and no opposition.
The board noted the grant funds are for archaeological and preparatory work, not construction, and emphasized the facility programs scoring criteria that favor projects with permitting well underway. Staff said future construction funding will require additional applications and permitting progress.
