The Key Colony Beach City Commission proposed a tentative millage rate of 2.82% for fiscal year 2025‑2026 during its first budget public hearing on Sept. 11, 2025. Commissioner Tom Harding presented the calculation of the millage and discussed changes in property assessments and condominium and home values that informed the rate.
Vice‑Mayor Doug Colonell read Resolution 2025‑08, "A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Key Colony Beach of Monroe County, Florida, Adopting the Tentative Levying of Ad Valorem Taxes for Fiscal Year 2025‑2026." Commissioner Tom DiFransico moved to approve the resolution and Commissioner Kirk Diehl seconded. The rollcall vote was recorded as unanimous in favor (5–0). The commission scheduled the second/final budget hearing for Sept. 18, 2025 at 5:05 p.m. in Marble Hall.
The millage discussion included an explanation of rollback calculations and how rising property values affect taxable assessments. City staff listed in the meeting record included City Administrator John Bartus and City Clerk Silvia Roussin. No citizen comments were received during the hearing.
