Lindsborg council adopts Region G Hazard Mitigation Plan to qualify for FEMA grants

The Lindsborg City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 18 to adopt the Kansas Region G Hazard Mitigation Plan under Resolution 08-2024, a multi-jurisdictional document that identifies hazards, vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies for participating jurisdictions.
The council heard that the plan — described in the meeting materials as a roadmap to reduce risk — defines mitigation as "sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and their property from hazards and their effects." McPherson County Emergency Management Director Julie McClure attended to provide additional information. Councilmember John Presley moved for adoption; the motion passed 7-0 by roll call vote.
City staff told the council adoption is required for the city to be considered eligible for FEMA grant applications and funding. The city is considering applying for a Flood Mitigation Assistance Grant for the Diversion Channel project, and officials said adopting the Region G plan is a prerequisite for that eligibility.
The plan referenced at the meeting is a multi-jurisdictional document intended to guide local and regional decisions about regulations, permits and capital improvements. Council members did not place conditions on the adoption; no separate amendments were made during the vote.
