Lindsborg City Council on Dec. 2 received a first reading of a proposed Memorandum of Understanding with Federico/Duerst Consulting to continue the city's government-relations work for 2025-2026. The firm has coordinated meetings with the governor's office, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), and legislative committee chairs, organized two Lindsborg Day at the Capitol events, and led student civic visits. The proposed MOU shows a stepped fee increase: the city paid $2,000 per month historically, the firm requested $2,250 per month in 2024 and $2,500 per month in 2025; no council action was taken and the matter will return on Dec. 16, 2024.
City materials presented background on how Federico/Duerst helped connect Lindsborg staff to KDOT contacts, which staff say led to KDOT taking notice of the town's K-4 Grade Separation project; KDOT awarded the project to the city in March 2024 with a project value described by staff as "over $8M." Representatives from Federico/Duerst (Liz Sosa, Mihailo Illich and Sarah Chenowith) were present for questions. Council will revisit the agreement as New Business at the Dec. 16 meeting.
