The Sweet Home City Council voted unanimously to approve a part‑time Public Works advisor contract intended to bridge a staffing gap while the city searches for a permanent public works director.
City Manager Adam Ogden presented the item and told the council that a regional shortage of qualified candidates prompted the agreement. "As you see in the RCA, there is really a nationwide shortage and regional shortage for qualified candidates for this position," Ogden said. The contract will pay the advisor $25,000 annually and cover 25% of medical benefits, and staff recommended approval.
Councilors asked about the duration and transition plan; Ogden said the intent is to retain the advisor while other nearby vacancies close and then proceed with hiring a full‑time director. "...there is definitely a long term intent to hire another public works director," he said, adding the advisor would train existing staff and help with day‑to‑day procedures during the transition.
The council moved and seconded the recommendation and the presiding officer recorded a 7–0 vote in favor of the contract.
