Council briefed on water-plant engineering reports and $1 million funding pursuit

The water committee updated the council on engineering work and funding prospects for the water plant. Committee members said an engineering firm delivered a PER for the silica line and will present a first draft professional engineering report for the plant on Sept. 24. "At our last meeting, the team from GD and F Engineering came, and they had a final draft of the professional engineering report, PER for the silica line," a water committee representative said.
Committee members reiterated that the town remains a candidate for a congressionally directed spending (CDS) request for $1,000,000 toward the plant; they asked engineering partners to identify additional funding sources to meet the multimillion-dollar scope likely needed for repair or replacement. Council members stressed urgency for redundancy in the raw-water pumping system and noted the town currently operates with a single pump in a tank that was designed for two, making a second pump a high-priority reliability project.
