Resident disputes Sunday parking ticket; council to review signage and enforcement

A Bath resident told the council he received a $30 parking ticket for “parked on sidewalk” while he was briefly picking up a newspaper and questioned why other drivers who park in the same area were not ticketed. The resident said this was his first ticket in 50 years of living in the area and called the enforcement unfair; he told the council he plans to go to court in October if the matter is not resolved.
Mayor (speaker 8) and council members said they could not adjudicate individual citations in a council meeting but agreed the space appears to have an unofficial short-term use and that signage or a formal 10-minute loading designation should be evaluated. “We will discuss it at Public Works and also in our public safety meeting,” the mayor said. Town staff recommended the resident bring documentation to the police department if he wants to pursue court review; the town’s enforcement officer’s actions were defended as routine by the mayor, who said officers “do their job.”
