City, school district outline next steps for Wake Street sports complex

City staff updated the council on preliminary steps toward a proposed Wake Street sports complex, a project discussed jointly by the city and the Sutherlin School District. Staff said urban renewal funds have been allocated for planning and that the next steps include renewing the wetland delineation (estimated at $7,000) and incorporating the site into the city’s parks master plan.
After those tasks are complete staff said a memorandum of understanding (MOU) or intergovernmental agreement (IGA) would be drafted to formalize collaboration between the city and the school district. Staff committed to presenting the superintendent’s review to the school board and reporting back to the Urban Renewal Agency at its next meeting.
