Council approves application for Marine Board grant to finish Ford’s Pond boating facility

Gilbert told the council the city would seek a 25% match and pursue additional grants or the next budget to cover any shortfall.
Councilors asked about boating restrictions and motorized craft; staff noted the proposal is limited to electric motors with a 10-mile-per-hour speed cap and said the project would increase parking, ADA accessibility and maneuverability for trailers. A motion to apply for the grant was made, seconded and approved by unanimous vote.
Gilbert said the grant and project sequencing will be coordinated with wetland permits and DEQ approvals already obtained; construction and additional funding steps will be addressed if the full grant award does not cover the total project estimate.
