Council adopts supplemental budget to cover retirement, jail and insurance costs

Sutherlin City Council voted to adopt Resolution 2025.19, a supplemental budget adjustment for fiscal year 2025–26 designed to cover several unforeseen costs. City Finance Director Tammy Trowbridge told the council the adjustments respond to a municipal court clerk retirement that has resulted in "double wages, health insurance, and PERS costs" during training along with a vacation payout, higher jail expenses and increased facility insurance costs following a recent appraisal.
Trowbridge opened the public hearing on the resolution and said the council’s options were "either to adopt the resolution 20 25.19 for the supplemental budget adjustment or not to adopt it." No members of the public spoke during the hearing. After council discussion a motion to adopt the resolution was made, seconded and carried by recorded affirmative votes from the councilors and the mayor.
The supplemental budget also accommodates a state grant recently received for the fire department training facility that staff said will be tracked as expenditures progress. The council did not specify additional changes beyond those identified in the staff report; staff will implement the adjustments and report as required by standard municipal accounting procedures.
