Craven County accepts 2025 tax settlement; readies 2026 tax notices

"The net levy that we received, fiscal year '25, tax year '25 was $60,837,618.67," Young told commissioners and added, "Our collection rate for tax year '25 was 99.28%." Commissioners praised the strong collection rate and then voted to accept the settlement. Following that vote, the board moved to "charge the Craven County tax collector with the tax collection of the 2026 tax levy," and authorized staff to proceed with preparing and mailing 2026 notices (Young said notices were on schedule to mail July 30).
The acceptance satisfies statutory requirements noted in the presentation and authorizes the county tax office to proceed with levy and notice tasks. Commissioners did not request additional clarification beyond congratulatory remarks for the high collection rate.
