Lindsborg City Council on Aug. 5 approved a purchase of 80 three-quarter-inch and 60 one-inch residential water meters for $31,551.80 to complete the city's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) upgrade.
City staff explained the AMI project requires new endpoints and that some existing meters do not communicate with the new endpoints. Staff said installation is slower than the earlier electric meter rollout because meter lids must be drilled and staff must access meters and in-ground transmitters. "As part of the City’s AMI project, there were several water meters that needed to be replaced because the existing water meters would not communicate with the new water endpoints," the staff report said. Councilmember Andrew Smith moved to approve the Core & Main quote; Councilmember Tanner Corwin seconded and the motion passed 8-0 by roll call vote.
The quote presented was from Core & Main of McPherson, the local supplier for Sensus meters; staff said they requested only one quote because Core & Main is the local supplier for the specified meters. Staff noted larger commercial meters remain under review and will be quoted later. The council's action authorizes purchase of the listed residential meters to finish the AMI residential upgrade.
