Library reports grants for STEM, teen snacks and harm-reduction materials

“We just received [the grant] — I haven't received the check yet, so still fingers crossed,” the staff member said, adding that the $2,000 award will support teen items and snacks. She also reported the library is using a $15,000 harm-reduction grant to buy books and related materials and has spent about $5,000 so far, which she estimated equates to roughly 500 books purchased to date.
Committee member asked for clarification on harm reduction and the staff member explained it broadly as practices and supports that reduce risks — ranging from car-seat installation education to assistance for people recovering from addiction. The staff member welcomed programming suggestions; a committee member recommended Ed Skipper for grief-recovery programming as one possible in-person option.
The board did not take formal votes on program spending during the meeting; staff said further budget requests and spending details will be part of the upcoming budget process.
