Booker May, representing Travel Berkeley Springs, asked the council for written permission to place official geocaches on town-owned property to create an interpretive trail that highlights Bath history and local points of interest. "Geocaching is the largest treasure hunt in the world," May said, describing caches as small containers with logbooks and occasional trinkets and noting they are listed in an online database.
May said the organization would administer and maintain the caches, provide the town with a manifest and photos, and follow spacing rules (about 40 meters apart). Council members raised concerns about placement near private property, mowing and maintenance, and suggested the council should review a proposed site list before granting formal approval. The council gave informal approval to proceed with a site list and asked May to submit proposed locations so members can suggest changes before a formal action is taken.
