The Town of Bath council voted to approve a budget revision that recognizes higher-than-expected municipal sales-tax revenue collected since the tax went into effect Jan. 1. Staff said the change requires a formal resolution for submission to the state and the council approved Resolution 2025-05-01 by voice vote.
"So the budget revision is one that needs to go to the states," a staff member said while outlining the changes and internal adjustments tied to the newly collected sales tax. Councilmember [Committee member] moved to approve the resolution and it was seconded; during the roll call all present members voted in favor and the chair declared, "The resolution has passed, and I'll be in the morning, I guess, to sign paperwork to go in to the state." The motion authorizes town staff to sign and submit the required filings.
Why it matters: the amendment formally records revenue that was not budgeted when the fiscal year began and enables the town to use the additional funds for approved projects and internal allocations. According to staff, the town received its first municipal-sales-tax payment for the 0.25% rate and overall collections came in higher than the conservative estimate used in the original budget.
Next steps: staff will sign and submit the resolution packet to the state for review as authorized by the motion. No fiscal offsets or rescissions were reported during the discussion.
