Sunman utilities report largely minor findings in 2026 sanitary survey

Connor, the town’s utilities representative, summarized the 2026 water sanitary survey and said inspectors identified only minor deficiencies. He listed old equipment at Well House 5, a missing screen on an air-release valve (a 24-mesh was ordered and installed), an exposed fan blade that required a guard, minor rust on a raw inlet pipe that was painted, and temporary cinder-block shoring at a tower leg that has been addressed with framing and filter material.
Connor said most items were addressed quickly and that the inspector added some deficiencies to strengthen the town’s case for grant funding. "He added a couple of the deficiencies ... in an attempt to help us with our big project," Connor said. The council adopted a contingency plan tied to the sanitary survey and was presented with a state-model cross-connection/backflow-prevention ordinance for consideration at a future meeting.
The council and staff agreed to continue repairs, proceed with bidding where appropriate in spring, and bring the backflow ordinance back for formal action next month. No major water-safety violations were reported.
