Development group seeks town partnership, proposes $72,000 consultant contract

Wayne Jenner of the Southeastern Indiana Development Corporation presented the group's history and a proposal for the town to coordinate on redevelopment planning. Jenner said citizens and businesses pooled funds years ago to buy roughly 40 acres south of town and that the corporation has invested proceeds in stocks and bonds, using interest sparingly to support development work.
Jenner described the group's interest in hiring Civetas, a strategic planning firm, for a year of consulting: "for a year of consulting work with them, we're looking at about $72,000," Jenner said. He emphasized the group's intent to assist the town rather than supplant municipal authority and urged formation of a redevelopment commission with appointed members from the town and a nonvoting school representative to coordinate redevelopment and funding strategies.
Council members asked about utilities and site availability; Jenner said the industrial park south of town is largely built out and identified one possible site (Hilton Bridal Farm) adjacent to town for consideration. The presentation closed with Jenner offering to provide additional material and requesting the council consider the group's draft ordinance and membership structure at a future meeting.
