Board recommends denial of ordinance to ban marijuana dispensaries, leaving existing ban unchanged

Ordinance 2024-20, which would ban marijuana dispensing facilities in Lake Worth Beach, was considered by the Historic Resources Preservation Board on Nov. 13. The board attorney and staff explained that because a statewide amendment to allow recreational marijuana did not pass, the previous local ban on dispensaries remains in effect.
When board members asked what changes the ordinance would make, the board attorney said there were no substantive changes and that the City Commission had requested input from the advisory boards. Vice-Chair Nadine Heitz moved to recommend denial of Ordinance 2024-20 to the City Commission; Edmond LeBlanc seconded and the motion passed with all votes recorded as "ayes," which leaves the current local code situation unchanged.
The board did not add conditions or amendments; the matter will proceed to the City Commission for any final action the Commission chooses to take.
