Oscar Robles told the council he and his wife want to hold a 25th-anniversary celebration for Miranchito and asked for permission to close Mercer Street for a daytime-to-evening festival. "Miranchito is one of the oldest restaurant[s] in town," Robles said, proposing June 21 or the 28th (he noted the 28th is a Saturday) and suggesting a closure roughly from 1:00 p.m. until 8:30 or 9:00 p.m.
Council staff and members explained the process Robles must follow before a street closure is approved. Councilor Scott Stuttler advised Robles to file a facilities-use request with the town so the event and closure can be reviewed, and a committee review (finance) will occur before the council takes a formal vote. "You'll have to get a facilities-use request for closing this street down," Stuttler said. The council indicated past similar events had been approved when the formal request was completed.
