Beautification committee orders $6,700 in flowers; planting set for May

Candy Snyder, representing the Beautification Committee, told the Park and Tree Committee the group has placed a large spring planting order with Baumann Farms and is planning spring installations around the city.
"So the total is about $6,700 for that," Snyder said, noting the order covers 32 large city baskets, smaller baskets for the Chamber of Commerce and multiple four-inch petunia pots in red, white and blue. She said delivery is scheduled for May 18 and planting will take place May 19 (medians) and May 20 (Shea Point, Fern Ridge and Clover Park).
Snyder said the committee coordinated with city staff and the Arts and Culture Committee on recent public-art installations; Sweet Home High School students made metal fish sculptures that Public Works secured in concrete on the median. She also noted a modest refunding arrangement: the city receives $10 back for each basket returned to Baumann's at the end of the season.
Committee members responded with logistical questions about volunteer staffing and watering; staff agreed to share vendor and planting logistics at the next meeting so volunteers can prepare.
