DEQ to publish Shoesmith testing data; county says an arsenic reading was likely a misread

DEQ said it will stand up a public website to publish historical and current testing data related to the Shoesmith Landfill and will provide a contact email for questions; the first version was targeted within about a week. "The 1st version will be shooting for next Wednesday to be complete," Mike Roban said, and Brad Ricks was named as a primary contact for incoming inquiries.
County staff addressed community concerns about an apparent high arsenic reading called out from a long technical report. Staff said the April report is roughly 750 pages and that a community member likely misread a column; county staff suggested the flagged number was probably total toxic organics (naphthalene) used in leachate sampling, not arsenic, and offered to follow up directly with residents to clarify sampling questions.
