The Rangeley Select Board voted to authorize the town manager to fill an open heavy equipment operator position for the highway department after staff confirmed the role is budgeted. Board members discussed the collective bargaining process and how a 15-day sign-off window can delay external posting; staff said internal unit employees have the first opportunity to accept the opening per the collective-bargaining agreement.
Select members also noted the position requires a commercial driver's license (CDL), which narrows the applicant pool. The town manager said public works could cover interim duties and that staff will retain on-file applications for up to one year; Sam (speaker 6) moved the authorization and the motion passed by voice vote. "I make a motion to authorize the town manager to fill the open highway position for the staffing policies post and higher," Sam said during the meeting.
