Panel recommends consumption permit, waives fees for Box Elder Chamber mixers

The Box Elder Finance, Legal and Public Safety Committee voted to forward a consumption-permit application for the Box Elder Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 mixers to the City Council with a recommendation of approval and a waiver of associated fees.
“They do qualify for this because they are a civic organization defined by South Dakota codified law,” Marco Laughlin, business license and development specialist, told the committee when explaining eligibility for the consumption permit. “Staff recommends approval of this permit.”
A committee member moved and a second followed; the motion to recommend approval and waive associated fees passed on a voice vote. The consumption permit is linked to the special-events permit and covers the same event dates previously listed.
The forwarded item will go to City Council for final action with staff’s recommendation attached.
