Lancaster County approves engineering supplements, mill-and-fill contract and motor grader purchase for road projects

Lancaster County commissioners approved a slate of transportation and infrastructure contracts and purchases on July 21, including engineering supplements for the South 98th Street project, a large mill-and-fill paving contract, and the purchase of two motor graders.
Assistant County Engineer Larry Legg said "the project is in the environmental review phase" and additional preliminary engineering services are required to complete the federal environmental review before advancing to final design. The Board approved Resolution R-26-0058 and related professional-services amendments with Alfred Benesch & Company to provide the additional engineering work; the professional-services supplement (C-26-0505) was listed at a not-to-exceed amount of $19,232.27, and the on-call task order (C-26-0506) capped at $264,250.50.
Legg also noted that "approximately 80 percent of eligible engineering costs would be reimbursed through federal funding," with the County responsible for the remaining share. The Board approved an agreement with Felsburg Holt & Ullevig for a HUD-required environmental assessment for the North 162nd Street Economic Development Initiative project, not to exceed $89,575, contingent on availability of federal funds.
For local roadworks, the Board approved a contract with Constructors Inc. for mill-and-fill work on West Denton Road and Southwest 12th Street with a total not-to-exceed cost of $1,850,965.09; Legg said the process extends roadway service life by an estimated 15 to 20 years. The Board also approved a purchase order to Nebraska Machinery Co. for two CAT 140-16 motor graders in the amount of $693,220.20 (including trade-ins), with members noting fleet replacement timing preserves trade-in value and reduces maintenance costs. Motions passed unanimously.
