Siuslaw SD 97J librarians and administrator win state awards; district highlights rise in database use

The district teacher librarian (introduced at the meeting) announced district honors from the Oregon Association of School Libraries, the Oregon Library Association and the Oregon State Library: a distinguished administrator award for the district librarian's work and a classified library staff‑of‑the‑year award for a middle‑school library manager. The presenter credited district support and a focus on data‑driven literacy and information‑literacy instruction for the honors and noted substantial increases in library database usage.
"Siuslaw School District out of the entire state of Oregon last spring had the highest increase of database usage reported by the state library," the librarian said, linking program activity to literacy instruction. The superintendent credited the librarian and staff for transforming libraries into active curriculum hubs rather than static collections.
Board members applauded the work and noted the practical impact of library innovations — podcast studios, a professional studio managed by trained student TAs, and greater access to up‑to‑date research databases for students at all grade levels.
