Residents at Hogansville hearing urge stricter rules, cite well‑water and rural‑character concerns

Mayor Jake Ayers called a public hearing at 6:31 p.m. on Draft #5 of the city’s proposed UDO amendments regulating data centers. Multiple residents spoke in opposition to data centers in or near the High Tower Road area and asked the city to strengthen protections in the draft before permitting such development.
Speakers asked for greater setbacks from homes and institutions, explicit decommissioning and deconstruction requirements, stricter controls on electrical infrastructure and generator fuel, higher construction standards and oversight, and community benefits. Residents also raised environmental and quality‑of‑life concerns — including potential impacts to well water, traffic and road wear, nighttime lighting, noise, wildlife, and property values — and urged the Council to ensure the ordinance aligns with the city’s Comprehensive Plan or to prohibit data centers within Hogansville.
