Council OKs $6,000 master service agreement for roadside weather stations

The Box Elder City Council authorized a one-year master service agreement with Frost Solutions LLC for two solar-powered mini weather stations and a one-year software subscription at a total cost of $6,000, funded in the FY25 street budget.
Bruce Martin, public works director, said the stations are equipped with cameras and sensors to deliver real-time road-condition updates — including ice formation, surface temperature and visibility — and would help staff deploy sanding and plowing resources more effectively. “These are solar powered weather stations equipped with cameras and sensors, to provide real time updates on road conditions, including ice formation, surface temperatures, visibility,” Martin said.
Council moved and approved the agreement by roll call. Martin said the hardware is leased and the subscription provides monitoring capability; funds were included in the current street budget and no additional appropriation was reported.
