City Administrator LeaAnn Myers reported that the City of Altamont received a subpoena seeking documents for the civil lawsuit PJ Stoneberger, et al. v. BP Energy Company, et al., related to Winter Storm Uri (Feb. 2021). Myers said staff collected and reviewed documents with the city attorney, reached out to the Kansas Municipal Gas Agency for questions, and submitted the requested information on Sept. 18, 2024; the minutes note roughly 10 staff hours were spent responding to the subpoena.
Separately, the council recessed into executive session multiple times under K.S.A. 75‑4319(b)(1) to discuss an individual employee’s performance; sessions included the city attorney, the city administrator, the police chief and Lieutenant Powell at various times. The council returned to open session and the minutes record that no action was taken following the executive sessions.
