Altamont council approves switch for police retirement to KP&F starting Jan. 1, 2025

"The biggest difference for the city would be the contribution that is paid to the officers, that jumps from 9.71% with KPERS to 24.67% with KP&F," Myers said. Chief Michael Shields said the change could help bring in certified officers rather than sending new employees to the academy.
Councilmember Kyle Wiford moved and Tyler Julich seconded to move the police department from KPERS to KP&F for future service effective Jan. 1, 2025. The motion carried; the minutes do not record an individual roll-call tally.
