City staff announced several community events and service notes: the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will be at McMillen Park on Monday, Sept. 16 (tickets available at the city office and local banks), a Veterans Memorial penny-auction fundraiser is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, city-wide rummage sales are scheduled for Sept. 28 and bulk-trash pickup is planned for Sept. 30'Oct. 2. The City Office will be closed Monday, Sept. 2 in observance of Labor Day.
Mayor Richard Hayward also told the council the Fire Department received a Kansas Forestry Grant and said he wants the city to post on Facebook seeking new volunteer firefighters and junior-firefighter program interest.
