Altamont appoints Taylor Mahan to police department; training under way

Mayor Richard Hayward appointed Taylor Mahan to the Altamont Police Department at the July 25 meeting; the council voted to accept the appointment. Councilmember Ben Cochran moved and Colt Booth seconded the motion to accept the appointment; the motion carried.
The police department report said Officer Mahan started on July 22 and is in training. The department listed recent activity including animal control calls, civil standbys/child exchanges, lake patrol and safety checks; officers issued one traffic citation for speed and submitted KBI reports for one battery and one criminal-damage incident. The police report was submitted by Lt. Christian Powell.
