Altamont council adopts animal ordinance (Ordinance 656)

The Altamont City Council adopted a new animal control ordinance, Ordinance 656, at its Aug. 8 meeting.
The ordinance updates rules governing the keeping of animals in the city, includes a requirement for inoculation against rabies, establishes penalties for violations and repeals Ordinance No. 625. Councilmember Ben Cochran moved to approve Ordinance 656 and Councilmember Lyle Sykes seconded. The roll-call vote recorded Cochran, Booth, Sykes and Julich as voting yes and the motion carried, formally adopting the ordinance.
City officials said the ordinance was reviewed with the police department before the vote. The measure appears on the council’s agenda packet as the formal ordinance text and will replace the previous provisions in Ordinance 625. The council did not record public comment on the item during the meeting.
