Altamont council declines change to July–August burn restriction
Summary

Citizens Glen and Ruth Bruce asked the council to revisit the city's existing burn policy, which currently prohibits open burning in July and August. The council reviewed a proposed ordinance that would instead allow the city to set a discretionary burn ban "at any time when it is determined burning could negatively impact human health or property."
Councilmember Lyle Sykes suggested issuing permits for burning during July and August on suitable days; Councilmember Kyle Wiford argued for keeping the current two-month prohibition. After discussion, the council chose to retain the existing July–August prohibition and made no change to the ordinance.
