Altamont council approves $2,050 donation for senior center mural

Council members voted July 25 to provide $2,050 to cover the shortfall for a mural planned on the north exterior wall of the Altamont Senior Citizens building. The council heard from Darrell Winter, who requested city financial assistance after the group had already raised more than half of the needed funds.
City Administrator LeaAnn Myers told the council that donation funds, drawn from utility accounts, currently total about $2,500. Councilmember Kyle Wiford moved and Ben Cochran seconded the donation "per our standard procedures," and the motion carried. Darrell Winter told the council $2,050 would complete the project and that the seniors could cover any additional paint costs once work began.
The donation was presented as part of a downtown reinvestment effort; Wiford said he felt the mural was "a great way to reinvent downtown" and encouraged caretaking of the building. The council's approval directs staff to issue the payment under established procedures.
