Several representatives requested the House adjourn in memory of recently deceased community members. Among those honored on the floor were Irene Martin of Harperville; Corey Collins, a JSU alumnus and founder of Tiger Talk radio; Lydia Johnson, the wife of former Representative Lonnie Johnson; Byron Patton; and a request that members keep the Speaker and his family in their prayers as the Speaker's father, John White, was to have a funeral Thursday.
After the series of memorial requests, Representative Shanks moved, "I move that the house stand adjourn until 2 2PM tomorrow." The Speaker called for 'ayes' and 'nays' and then announced adjournment until 2:00 p.m. the following day. These were formal floor requests and a procedural adjournment vote; no substantive legislative decisions on policy were taken during these items.
