City assists Rural Water District No. 5 amid boil advisory; Bellevue Drive main replacement underway

City Manager Mark Westhoff briefed commissioners that KDHE requested the city's help to get Rural Water District No. 5 back into compliance during an ongoing boil-water advisory. Westhoff said the city started a free-chlorine treatment a few weeks ago and has been flushing towers and hydrants; he emphasized the city itself is not under advisory and said, "It's still safe to drink no matter what." He noted KDHE will make the final determination on lifting the advisory.
Westhoff also updated the commission on a water-main replacement project in the Bellevue Drive area (outside city limits but served by the city's system), saying the contractor has started and those in the area have been notified; the project is the largest of the cycle and will be followed by additional main replacements in coming months.
