City Engineer Scott Lang presented an engineering update showing a proposed truck route related to runway reconstruction that could require temporarily closing segments of Country Road and a northwest county road segment to keep non-construction traffic away from a five-legged intersection.
Lang explained the route (including use of property owned by a private party) and said the proposal could be implemented temporarily — possibly for up to four years during peak construction — if traffic volumes create conflict points at the intersection. He said he had discussed the idea with the fire department and the school transportation director and that neither raised immediate objections, though the school transportation director indicated a need to ensure pickup/drop-off turnaround points.
Lang noted the Air Force would be responsible for building the new road and that there would be no direct cost to the city for construction, but he acknowledged potential resident pushback at properties that would see increased heavy truck traffic. Staff said they will bring the matter back to the committee before formal council action so the committee and council can consider public input and coordination with county and Air Force partners.
