Mr. Baus led a workshop on revisions to the head teacher job description, focused on the high-school/department-head role. He said the proposal under discussion is "a working session, a 2 year kind of appointment to the position," with an evaluation in the second year: "on that 2nd year, they get an eval by their building principal or designee" that would determine whether the person is reappointed.
Committee members discussed whether head teachers should evaluate classroom teachers and agreed that administration, not head teachers, should perform teacher evaluations. Mr. Baus outlined five proposed evaluation criteria for the head teacher role (instructional leadership, communication and collaboration, timely completion of responsibilities, professionalism/dependability, and contribution to school culture) and invited input from department chairs and the union; staff said they will draft an evaluation form for further review at the next HR committee meeting.
