Committee clarifies teacher pay schedule change and contract timing
Summary
Members asked whether personnel salaries in the packet reflected the Sept. 1 contract rate. Staff explained the district changed payroll from 26 pays to a different schedule, paid out last year at the end of the year and will use next year's rates starting with teachers' first day despite the contract language.

A committee member asked whether the salary figures in the personnel packet reflected the contract-year change that takes effect on Sept. 1. Mr. Baus said the district had "changed the pay schedule for teachers this year. We allowed them we we got rid of the 26 pay," and that previously teachers had been paid across the summer. He said the district paid out teachers at the end of the school year this year and will use the next year's rates at the start of the school year despite the contract's Sept. 1 date.
Committee members said the current practice makes more sense operationally than having teachers work for two weeks at the old rate and then receive the new rate after Sept. 1. Mr. Baus confirmed the chart in the packet reflects the September 1 rates as applied to the start of the school year under past practice.
