Lisa McElree, who introduced herself as the newly elected president of the Board of Cosmetology and Barbering, told the committee the board "did get quite a bit of business done today" and described priorities including workforce development, easing regulatory burdens and reviewing legislation affecting the industry. McElree told senators the board adopted prior passing scores and moved the effective date back to "01/01/2025" for students who had been caught in a rule gap, a change intended to allow those students to obtain licenses.
McElree highlighted two areas the board will examine closely: a house bill on mobile barbershops, noting water and service limitations for mobile establishments, and reducing fines for technical violations while preserving a focus on public health and safety. She said the board reviewed contracts for evaluators and will initially retain the executive director in place while providing additional training and direction.
