Committee backs RFP to help county businesses win federal contracts

County executive staff told the Economic Development Committee the administration plans a targeted solicitation worth $150,000 to help county businesses that rely on federal contracts expand opportunities.
"The 1st RFP we have is going to be for a single contractor to provide support for federal for companies that do business with the federal government, to help them explore, permitting opportunities...minimum of 10 in-person workshop sessions a year, 1-on-1 coaching sessions, networking opportunities," the administration representative said, describing the scope as coaching, workshops and networking to connect federal contractors to other procurement avenues.
Staff said federal procurement differs from county procurement and requires tailored support; the county intends to hire a contractor to provide that assistance and will hold an open question session prior to issuing the solicitation. Councilmembers endorsed a focused approach and emphasized outreach so smaller organizations can compete.
Next steps: staff will circulate the draft RFP to the council, hold pre-proposal outreach sessions and return to the committee in the fall to report on solicitations and FY27 criteria.
