The McLeod County Board voted to extend an agreement allowing the Alice Chalmers Club to continue using a 50-by-100-foot building on the northwest corner of the fairgrounds through July 31, 2027. Public works staff explained the original 12-year agreement provided storage space for tractors and equipment used during the Orange Spectacular show; at the agreement's end the building would revert to county control. Staff recommended a one-year extension to allow time to determine repurposing and storage alternatives.
One commissioner said the extension made sense but expressed concern about the current rent level compared with earlier estimates; he said he would accept a one-year extension but would not support a longer renewal at the current rent. A motion to approve the one-year extension carried on a voice vote after brief discussion. Staff also noted upcoming electrical work at the fairgrounds in early August tied to other facility preparations.
